Bio

Gord began learning to play the guitar when he was in elementary school. During his junior and senior high school years he played in amateur rock bands, where he began developing skills in music performance and arranging. 

In 1980 he graduated from the University of Alberta Bachelor of Music program (music composition). During his time in the B.Mus. program, he played guitar in the U of A big band jazz ensemble for 4 years, and as well as playing in weekend pop groups. 

In the summer of 1985, Gord studied jazz arranging at the Eastman School of Music in New York. 

From 1980 – 2000 Gord worked as a performer/arranger in various professional pop groups, music theatre productions, and other music genres in Western Canada. During that time, he also began working as a recording studio session guitarist, then later, as a composer/producer of broadcast production music (mainly TV commercials and documentary films). During that period, Gord won two Alberta Motion Picture Industry Association (AMPIA) awards (Best music score), two Alberta Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards (Best music score), and nine Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE) awards (Best music for TV/radio). 

From 2000 to 2020 Gord worked as music/worship arts director at an Edmonton church. During that time he arranged  a wide stylistic range of sacred music. In 2005, Gord graduated from the St. Stephen’s College Master of Theological Studies program.

Gord sang with the Edmonton's Richard Eaton Singers from 1995 – 2005, with i Coristi Chamber Choir from 2006 - present, and with Da Camera Singers 2022 - present.

Gord has kept a small studio of guitar students for the past 15 years, during which time he has arranged
a large body of solo music for acoustic guitar.
